Tham Sing or Sing Cave


This is new tourist attraction of Udon Thani is located on the Phu Range in the area of Nong Charoen Village, Mu 7 Tambon Khon Yung, Amphoe Kut Chap, around 45 km. from Udon Thani township.

Places of interest in the cave
Sam Ton Mak : is the area where a lot of betel nuts are growing. During the rainy season,the area is flooded and villagers usually bring their cattle to drink water here. There is a weir with a shady surounding.
Lan Thap Khwai: is a spacious ground with a roof-shaped rock shelter and surronding wild trees. In the past, villagers raised their cattle in the wild and took a rest for lunch here, while the cattle could feed on fruits of a wild tree called 'Krabok'
Tham khok Ma: is a layering rock shelter with a through hollow. According to the legend of Nang Usa and Thao Barot, Prince Barot ran in search for his wife Usa and tied his horse here.
Tham Ruesi : is a boulder of around 2.2 m hight with an entrance channel to a layering rock shelter. It was once used by a monk on pilgrimage for meditation.
Bo Nam Phaya Nak : is believed to be a door between the Earth and the Water world for Nagas (mythical serpents). It features a small well down into the rock layer with an upper hole in a shape of the circle around 1m deep and 70 cm in diameter.
Tam Sahai Kep sabiang : is a cave for keeping food of communists in the past. The cave's mount is a hole of around 50 cm wide and surrounded by bushes. The cave is still unexplored for fear that some dangerous weapons might be left inside.
Lat khom : is an area of uneven rock as a result of erosion by water, which looks like stalagmites.
Lat Kha Noi : is a strip of rocky ground. Many small plants grow in crevices in the rocks. This is a viewpoint for beautiful scenery. Legend has it that a hill tribe community of Kha Noi once lived around here. Later, They were killed in battle and their corpses were gathered here.
Bo Nam Manora : is related to the folk tale Phra Suthon - Manora. It is believed that Nang Manora, daughter of the half- bird, half - human King, enjoyed swimming in a well. She was caught from the well by a hunter to be offered to prince Suthon. The well features a hole of 1.5 m deep and 1.2 m wide. The hole which was caused by rock subsidence holds water all year round.
Tham Nok Yung : features rocks leaning against each other, which creates a large cave nshelter. Details of the rock in each layer can be clearly seen. Importantly at the lower part numerouse small hotels appear and give a similarity of rock erosion over thousands of year. There are a channel and vine stems, which enables the climbing up to explore the top of the cave.
Tham Alyara : is a cave-like shelter with an elephant head-shaped rock, near Tham Nok Yung and encompassed by a bamboo forest.
Tham Sithon : features a rock shelter extending from a boulder. At a side is a piece of rock similar to a stone base for sleeping. According to the legend of Thao Sithon ( Phra Suthon ) -Manora, This is the cave where Thao Sithon stayed during a jungle visit to capture Nang Manora to be his wife.
Mahaisawan Stone Park : is a spacious rocky ground on the hilltop with viewpoints overlooking the township of Nong Bua Lam Phu.
Tham Air: is a rocky hole with a narrow mouth, but a spacious inner part and pleasantly cool air
Tham Suea : is a small cave with a narrow space. It is assumed by villagers that it was a hiding place of a tiger which went to eat animals brought to be raised at Tham Sing.

Travel to Tham Sing
To get to cave paintings at Tham Sing from the town of Udon Thani, take Hightway 2263
(Udon Thani-Kut Chap) to the west for around 22 km. Go on to Tambon Khon Yung for around 9 km and drive past Nong Khong village toward the T-junction where the Nong Khong Health Centre is on the right . Take a left turn at the T-junction and drive along to Nong Charoen village for around 3 km. Go Straight past Nong Mek village and turn left at the T-junction of Wat Charoen Sattha Samakkhi. Take a dirt road to the Phu Lon ecclesiastic abode ( Samnak Sangha). Go further past sugarcane fields for around 3 km to the foot of the Phu Phan Mountain and walk for another 3 km. to reach the cave of the cave paintings. The total distance is 45 km.
